My Photography and Equipment List for this Adventure

Along with my love for Travel and Adventure, I have a love for Photography

My first camera, way back in my late teens early 20's (that's MY early 20's not THE early 20's :) ), was a Minolta XG-1 slr. A stunning camera which I purchased because I wondered whether or not I liked photography, even though I had never taken a photo in my life before.

Sometimes we just connect to something, without having a clue as to what its all about, and photography was it for me. I had spent more than I could afford on it too!

At 21, I packed everything up, sold all my crap, and took my camera with me on a 2 year adventure to Australia, via Singapore. I had the time of my life, partying and...partying, while grafting as a bricklayers labourer through the crazy heat of the day.

I was using up more rolls of film than I could afford to process, and here is the sad bit about that: I had a cookie jar full of film rolls, just waiting for me to send to the chemist for processing, but on my sudden return to the UK, I lost them :( and I'm still sad about that to this day. If we only had digital and uploading back then hey.

As the years rolled by, my photography had gone to one side, in place of trying to make a living in the building industry and just paying bills and raising children, but my love for photography and my appreciation for other people's work, never left me, and so over the last few years, I made my return.

Isn't it wonderful to be able to take as many shots as you like, without having to consider the cost of processing :). I mean, can you imagine today shelling out £10 on getting 36 exposures processed?, because that is what it would be like. Not to mention praying that the images all took and they were not destroyed by light or water.

Dials, buttons, post-processing, memory cards, myriad options and settings, has all taken some getting used to I can tell you, but I love it. The amount of equipment I am taking is quite weighty, and I'm just hoping I still have room for my 2 pairs of odd socks :)

No more cookie jars :), all images from my adventure will be uploaded to my Social Media platforms, with my main Blog being a Google+ Collection, which you can locate here: Google+ Blog
Photographic and Video Equipment List

Mirrorless Camera:
Wanting the best compact and versatile camera I could find to take on this adventure, I did a lot of investigation and settled - quite happily and something I could just about afford.

The Camera had to be full-frame, 4K video capable, smaller than a Nikon 810 or Canon 5D so as to look less expensive, but still offer all that they offer, and more.

Sony a7rii Full-Frame Mirrorless -  4K - 3 Batteries

Camera Lenses:
Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens
Sony 70-200mm F4.0 G Lens
Kenko Extension Tube Set 10+16 For Sony E-Mount

Tripod:
Joby Gorilla Pod Focus + Ballhead X Attachment

Memory Cards:
1x 32gb, 2x 64gb, and 1x 128gb - SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC 95 MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30

Video Camera
Along with the Sony a7rii for 4K video recording, I went for the the Hero 5 for a number of reasons. The first being that it is completely waterproof, and I hope to capture some underwater shots from time to time.

Other reasons are because it is a one button, easy to set up, tiny 4K camera I can shove in my pocket. The quality is amazing, although there are some restrictions in 4K mode, such as a limited choice of angle recording (wide only).

A huge plus for me, is the voice control, which actually works. So if chest mounted, I can just say "GoPro Start Recording", and it's away. I was very impressed with how it worked, and I have yet to submerge the thing, so can't give my review on that :)

Camera:
GoPro Hero 5 Black - 4K

Accessories:
Chest Mount and Brace
Hand hold that floats, in case I drop GoPro while under water
Combo Selfie Stick (I don't like doing selfies as believe it or not, I am really quite shy) with built in Tripod
3 Batteries

2x 64gb, SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC MicroSD 95 MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30
